THINGS I HAVE LEARNED ABOUT MR.YJ

And I apologize if some of this makes you say “DUH”. Maybe it will help someone!

You can’t flat tow a jeep with a front Lok Rite locker! (an ARB should work)

A 2 ½ inch lift and 32” tires will require the bump stops be installed or you will scrap when at full articulation.

A 4 cylinders practical limit on the street, with 4:10 gears, is 32” tires. (say goodbye to using 5th gear)

A Detroit C-Locker is the same as a Detroit Soft Locker, except with the recess to accommodate the c-clip used on Dana 35C differentials.

A Detroit Softlocker is the next generation locker by Detroit. They updated it a little to make it quieter.

A Lock-Rite locker in the front diff will NOT make a jeep pull when going down the highway.

When shopping for a Jeep, be SURE to get power steering. ESPECIALLY if you plan on locking the front diff!!!

Also, when converting manual to power, they use different steering shafts and pitman arms.

As soon as you can, upgrade the one row radiator to an all metal two row. Even if you have a 4 banger and ESPECIALLY if you live in the south. I paid $180 for a new one.

If you plan on off-roading with your jeep most of the time, and it is not a daily driver, a 4 cylinder is plenty. I have gone as straight up as traction will allow, and have NEVER starved for horsepower.

PRODUCT REVIEWS by ME!

Relocation mounts for you door mirrors – Don’t waste your time. They are a BEAR to install and you can’t see out the mirrors unless the doors are OFF!

Wedge speaker boxes – Not worth the money. Easy to install but you can’t hear them stuck behind the seats. For that kind of money I would recommend going ahead and getting a sound bar. You will at least have a useable dome light!

Detroit Lockers – AWESOME. The posi action steers the jeep some when accelerating. It is cool because my 4 cyl can squeal the tires now! Really for off road operation however. Would probably be dangerous with more horse power on a rainy street!

Challenger Products Differential guard – Easy install, rugged look, easy install. I did not have to drain the diff to install. Installed in about 20 minutes.

Some observations from being at Off Road events…

My Detroit has NEVER blown a fuse!  (:b

Most Jeep owners have a little McGiver in them.

What is better than an $800 winch? The guy in front of you with an $800 winch.

Off road people are good people. And you can’t tell the doctors from the dog catchers.

The person with the best tow rig wins.

Don’t ride in a Jeep named “Flipper”.

If you want to find out who the best people in your group are…..just break something.
